KIRKBY OVERBLOW SCHOOL PTA MEETING

Minutes of Meeting held on 14 November 2008

Were agreed as an accurate record of the meeting.

New Committee

Mandate to be update with new signatures and also for charity commission.

Treasurers Report

We have in the bank £4278.00 Karen is due to have a handover with Nicky Dyer this week.

Headmistress Report

Mrs Shepherd informed the meeting that the school outing has been arranged for June to see Joseph and his technical dream coat at the playhouse in Leeds.  The PTA is to pay for the coaches.   Mrs Shepherd  asked if the PTA would contribute to the following items

New Cooker – £650

Boom whackers – £75

Table Tennis Table – £200

Display Notice Boards – £160

A total of £1,085, it was agreed at the meeting that all the items were to be purchased Karen to raise a cheque for the full amount.

It was also agreed to purchase new table clothes as the burgundy ones have seen better days.  Sam to organise and PTA to pay for.

Past Events

X Factor

A huge success and thoroughly enjoyable evening, a big thank to all staff, children and PTA for all their hard work, we raised £82.28 for children in need.

Nativity DVD

We sold 49 DVD making a profit of £204.  Thank you to Jonathon Grainger & Darren Hamshaw for organising this and filming.  To be done again next year.

School Calendars

We have made £532 profit from sponsors and sales. Well done to Elaine for all her hard work.

Nativity Photographs

Jules Henry took photographs of the children in the nativity production they are now on website www.navity01.notlong.com please email jules@juleshenryphotograph.co.uk the prices are £1.00 for 6×4 and £1.50 for a 7×5.  All profits to go to the PTA.  Hopefully next year we will be able to have more lighting in the church so more photographs can be taken.

Future Event

Apprentice Competition 

It was decided to postpone this event until the Apprentice is on TV to encourage more interest.   Instead we will use the venue (spofforth village hall and the licence) to organise a large money raising social event.  It was suggested doing a Bollywood evening a subcommittee has been set up to organise this and report back to the next meeting. Subcommittee members are Amanda Brown, Martine Phipps, Kate Lavelle, Carol Cooling, Jules Henry, Suzie Thomas.

Beetle Drive – 30 January 2009

Tickets to go on sale and follow the same format as last year.

School Disco -  Friday 6 February

It was agreed to hold a school disco in February, we will split the age groups again as last year is was a success but this year change the timing so that parents are not having to pickup at different times  Key stage 1 2.30 – 3.30 and Key stage 2 3.30 – 5.00.  Friday 6 is a non uniform day as well.  

Planning For Next Years Events

We planned the dates of events for the next year, these are to be finalised and issued to all parents.

PTA Shed

It was agreed that before we purchase a new shed for storage of PTA things that we should investigate whether we can use the cellar.  Jonathan to take a look and then organise a team of dads to paint etc.

PTA Website

Jonathan should the meeting a copy of the PTA website, everybody agreed that it was a very good idea to populate and use it with a link from the school website.  Instructions to be sent out to all parents.  Lee Spencer has kindly offered to maintain it. 

Any Other Business

It was suggested that we could hold a second hand uniform shop.  Mrs Shepherd said that this has been tried before and nobody seemed to want to buy it.  To be reviewed again at a later date.

It was also suggested about running a mini ebay auction on the school web site.  Jonathan to investigate.

Another fund raising idea was for the children produce birthday cards for parents to buy.  This was thought to be a good idea and to be looked into.

Apple has kindly offered to do a Thai cookery demonstration, this offer to be taken and to be arranged for a later date.
